Fourier-Based Spectral Analysis with Adaptive Resolution
نویسنده
چکیده
Abstract Despite being the most popular methods of data analysis, Fourier-based techniques suffer from the problem of static resolution that is currently believed to be a fundamental limitation of the Fourier Transform. Although alternative solutions overcome this limitation, none provide the simplicity, versatility, and convenience of the Fourier analysis. The lack of convenience often prevents these alternatives from replacing classical spectral methods – even in applications that suffer from the limitation of static resolution. This work demonstrates that, contrary to the generally accepted belief, the Fourier Transform can be generalized to the case of adaptive resolution. The generalized transform provides backward compatibility with classical spectral techniques and introduces minimal computational overhead.

On Hilbert Spectral Representation: a True Time-Frequency Representation for nonlinear and nonstationary Data
As the original definition on Hilbert spectrum was given in terms of total energy and amplitude, there is a mismatch between the Hilbert spectrum and the traditional Fourier spectrum, which is defined in terms of energy density. Rigorous definitions of Hilbert energy and amplitude spectra are given in terms of energy and amplitude density in the time-frequency space. Unlike Fourier spectral ana...

Based on the accumulated data, FTIR spectroscopy seems to be a highly sensitive tool in cervical cancer diagnosis. We, therefore, employed this technique in a screening type of research here in Tehran. The purpose of this study was to look for the spectral pattern differences between normal and malignant cervix samples in Iranian women. Through formal and informal announcements, all gynecology ...
متن کاملAdaptive Time-Frequency Resolution for Analysis and Processing of Audio
Filter banks with fixed time-frequency resolution, such as the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT), are a common tool for many audio analysis and processing applications allowing effective implementation via the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The fixed time-frequency resolution of the STFT can lead to the undesirable smearing of events in both time and frequency. In this paper, we suggest adapti...

متن کاملMulti-frame Super Resolution for Improving Vehicle Licence Plate Recognition
License plate recognition (LPR) by digital image processing, which is widely used in traffic monitor and control, is one of the most important goals in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). In real ITS, the resolution of input images are not very high since technology challenges and cost of high resolution cameras. However, when the license plate image is taken at low resolution, the license...
